Current Contest Giveaways:

Week of Oct 15 thru 21:

Beowulf: A Tale of Blood, Heat, and Ashes

Beowulf: A Tale of Blood, Heat, and Ashes (2007)

This is beautifully done version of the story. It is an oversized book gorgeously illustrated by John Howe who was a lead artist for the Lord of the Rings movies. It's quite obviously a labor of love. If you want a book that you can keep for years and refer back to as soon as the story fades then this is the one. (This weeks contest is closed and a winner has been announced)

Week of Oct 22 thru 28:

Beowulf

Beowulf the Graphic Novel by Gareth Hinds

It is, after all, a story of action and adventure so it translates perfectly into the genre of graphic novel. But this isn't your typical graphic novel. It is done in a rich variety of styles that capture the mood and the stages of Beowulf's life.

Week of Oct 29 thru Nov 4:

Beowulf ages 8-12

Beowulf  By Michael Morpurgo and illustrated by Michael Foreman   (Ages 8-12)

This book is aimed at 8-12 year olds so I guess you have to call me 12 because I really love it. (A book like this is a treat not just for the kids.)

The thing I want to emphasize here again is the fact that the story of Beowulf is truly universal. It has been told for over a thousand years by many different people and in many different ways. So no matter what your taste in style of story or book is you can find something in that style that tells the story of the greatest hero that ever lived!

Week of Nov 5 thru Nov 11:

A three volume set of books! ( Winner gets all three books!)

These are three books in a projected quartet called "The Pellinor Series"

Author's comments:
Alison Croggon is an award-winning Australian poet whose work has been published extensively in anthologies and magazines around the world. Her plays and opera libretti have been produced in Australia, and she is also an editor and critic. She began to write the books of Pellinor when her oldest son, Joshua, was reading fantasy. "I had forgotten how much I loved this stuff when I was a kid, and Josh's reading reminded me," she says. "My first real ambition as a child was to write a fantasy novel. One day I sat down and started writing a story. I had no idea what would happen, but one character appeared, and then another, and before long I had to finish the story to find out what happened." That story was THE NAMING. She says she was surprised by how the book seemed to unfold, already formed, before her. "Perhaps it's been waiting to be written for thirty years." Alison Croggon lives in Melbourne, Australia, with her playwright husband and their three children.
