The Cudgel

The Cudgel was a rather peculiar weapon. It is for the most part a club and there were many variations of clubs and cudgels. The most popular type of cudgel was that carried by priests and monks. They were disguised to look like some kind of a religous walking cane or stick but their real use was for self defense and clubbing without causing too much harm to an opponent. There were specialized cudgels that were made just for clubbing the feet of prisoners and cudgels that were just a wooden club with one end thicker than the other. It is a rather archaic term and it has been blurred over the centuries.
